(6 abr. 1812, Moscú, Rusia–21 ene. 1870, París, Francia).
Escritor y activista político ruso. Cuando era un estudiante en la Universidad de Moscú, se unió a un grupo socialista, por lo que fue enviado a trabajar en la burocracia de provincia (1834–42). De regreso en Moscú, se unió a los occidentalizantes, pero luego se integró al socialismo anarquista. Después de heredar una considerable fortuna, abandonó Rusia. En París proclamó que las instituciones occidentales estaban "muertas y formuló la teoría de una particular vía rusa al socialismo llamada populismo campesino. Se trasladó a Londres en 1852 y fundó la Prensa rusa libre, así como el influyente periódico
